Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. ~ Proverbs 22:6 KJV

As a young Christian mom, I'm always looking for books to help me in my parenting journey. I have read very dry, outdated books about parenting as a Christian and have been waiting for something fresh. When the opportunity came to review "Parenting with Scripture: A Topical Guide for Teachable Moments" by Kara Durbin, I was ecstatic! This book was released a few months ago.  Talk about fresh!

The book is an A - Z topical guide to God's principles on today's issues such as complaining, discipline and  giving, as well as other not so commonly talked about ones such as discernement, gossip, and self-respenct. Durbin begins with introduction and an explanation of teachable moments, which was really helpful. So many times I would have overlooked a moment that could have been used for a spiritual lesson for my little one.  Each issue is tackled in an easy two page format. First the issue is defined, followed by scripture referencing the issue, discussion questions, ways to take action (for parent and child), and occasionally a parenting tip.

Durbin includes a scripture appendix including the 10 Commandments, The Beatitudes, The Love Chapter, The Fruit of the Spirit, The Armour of God verses; a cross-reference index PLUS 15 Fabulous Verses to Memorize. memorization methods and {my favorite} praying scripture for your child. All that packed into this 256 page book! This is a book that I will come back to time and time again for wisdom.

Whether you're a parent of a two year old through teen this is a handy and powerful resource. These would make a great gift to new parents. As Durbin stated, with her book "you are teaching your child to think through the Scripture and apply it to his life...{making}the words real to him. Most importantly, you will instill in your child a habit of turning to the Scripture to answer questions so that it will serves as the guidebook for life."

This book retails for $14.99 and can be found at a number of retailers including Amazon.
