Where Are All The Kids?!

by - Tuesday, March 03, 2015

The weather is nice today in the 70s with a bit of sun and a little wind. Normally, after I pick her up from school, we park in the garage and head straight into the house. We're going grocery shopping later today after King J gets home so I parked in the driveway. I realized, "What a beautiful day?" and asked Princess A if she wanted to ride her bike. She happily obliged and so I sat at the end of the driveway and watched her ride back and forth between the two neighboring homes.

Our street is pretty quiet, one of the reasons we fell in love with our home. As she was riding, I wondered, "where are all the kids?" and "why aren't they outside enjoying the weather?" Maybe they have homework. So did Princess A, but I wanted her to soak in that daylight while we still had it.

When I was little we were outside the first chance we got and stayed outside until the street lights came on. I'm not naive. I realize the generation now doesn't value anything unrelated to electronics, but small kids as well?! I know there are kids on our street but I only see them every so often and never in a group like we used to have. Weekends included.

We parents have to do better, myself included with getting our kids outside and enjoying the FREE fun.
