Review: "How to Move From Blogger to Wordpress" by Sharon Hujik

It's no secret that by the end of the summer I plan to have made the switch from Blogger to Wordpress. I'm most looking forward to the numerous plugins that the Wordpress software allows to make your blogging experience easier and more efficient. I have began the process several times, only to find myself stopping short for fears of irreplaceable damage to my blog. To be frank, the whole process intimidates me. I've thought about hiring someone who could do the whole process for me, plus maybe even a new design but the price is not possible for my family right now. I'm a DIY kind of person anyways.

So what do you do?

Wordless Wednesday: It Must Be Nice

Mommy Monday: Our trip to D.C.

Our family traveled to DC for the first time this weekend. We opted to take the metrorail instead of getting a rental car, which was much cheaper! If you snag a SmartTrip card ($5 with $5 in fare loaded onto the card) you'll save as much as $1 per ride!

After we got off the metrorail it was a kind of culture shock. There were so many people enjoying the greenspace. Baseball, kickball, picnicking, kite flying...it was all there. It was so carefree which is a nice change of pace from Atlanta. We visited the Washington Monument first and asked a nice woman if shoe would take a photo of us.

Book Review: "Leaving" by Karen Kingsbury

Today's review is a novel written by a New York Times Bestselling author who is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Leaving (Bailey Flanigan Series)

"Leaving" by Karen Kingsbury follows the story of Bailey Flanigan, a young woman who might just have found her next chapter in life. But as with many new changes, people leave and move on, including Bailey and she comes to embrace the fact that Jesus is the only one who won't leave her.

One of my favorite daily deal sites, www.eversave.com is throwing an Ice Cream Social just in time for summer! Today, Eversave is featuring a daily deal with a fantastic local ice cream shoppe here in Atlanta: Cinda’s Ice Cream Social (www.ice-cream-social.com). This deal will run for four days.

In celebration of the Ice Cream Social, the team at Eversave surveyed more than 900 people to find out their “ice cream personalities.” 34% consider themselves ‘chunky monkeys’ and prefer ice cream mixed with treats like chocolate chips, cookie dough, and fruit. 26% are ‘top-a-holics’ wanting all the syrup, sprinkles and whipped cream they can get. On the other hand, 32% said they were ‘naked eaters’ –eating their ice cream without any toppings.

Couponing: My Story & Downloads To Get You Started!

It seems like everyone are really starting to value the use of coupons more. I have been using them since high school. I had just started working and realized that I could use a little help stretching out my minimal paycheck dollars. Then I started buying Sunday newspapers and was shocked at all the coupons. I mostly used the restaurant, cosmetics and snacks coupons, but it was a start.

I eventually started looking for a second part-time job in college and found that the classifieds were also in the Sunday paper. On Monday's I'd stop by the career center on campus and pick up a newspaper and realized they didn't take out the coupon inserts. SCORE!! I could get the Sunday paper on Sunday, scope it out for any really good coupons and then pick up another tomorrow at the center. How cool was that! Also, If I ever forgot to get a paper on Sunday, I could always grab one at the school on Monday.

Our Summer of Landmarks

My family is very fortunate this summer. My husband has accepted an internship that has brought us to Northern Virginia and is literally 20 minutes away from all of the historical landmarks that Washington, DC has to offer. I'm most looking forward to visiting the Supreme Court of the United States building, while hubby is looking forward to taking a road trip to Baltimore! I'm hoping to persuade him to take a road trip to Philadelphia and NYC too since we're only hours away.

Our daughter will love all the fun activities that this summer will bring. Plus, I plan to keep a few Twizzlers (her favorite candy) in her bag to keep her happy on the longer day trips. I will be visiting www.Twizzlers.com for some tips to make our trips fun this summer. You should check them out too!

Disclosure: I am entering a contest for a Twizzlers Landmark Summer promotion prize pack as a member of the Mom Bloggers Club. This post is my entry.

Repurposed: Sugar & Flour Canisters

Sugar and flour canisters
This is my first post on repourposing an item so just for fun I looked up the definition.

re·pur·pose (verb): to give a new purpose or use to

I was just finishing up a canister of lemonade and thought "these are too nice to throw away. What could I put in this?" Then I remembered seeing sugar and flour canisters on my favorite cooking shows and decided it would work great since I don't do much baking. Typically, I only use tablespoons or so at a time. {Plus, I personally have a hard time getting sugar out of the sack without spilling some every time.}

How to Make:
  1. Remove the label (which should come off cleanly) and clean canister.
  2. Pour sugar or flour into the canister and screw closed.
  3. Label them. {I just used hubby's label maker)

Decorating Idea: Tie a cute ribbon around the rim. {I didn't have any on hand}

Book Review: "Blood Covenant" by Lisa Harris

I love novels with an inspiring message, which is why "Blood Covenant" by Lisa Harris has easily become a favorite.

Blood Covenant (Mission Hope)

Often in times of chaos we wonder where is God? Why is He letting these things happen? Why doesn't He stop this? These are the things Dr. Paige Ryan wonders as she sees the illness and injustice inflicted on the Africans in the Republic of Dhamizao. As a doctor working with Volunteers of Hope International, she arrives to the war torn country with hopes of saving lives. Paige quickly realizes that she must save her own life in order to be of any help to the refugees - but not without feelings of guilt and the testing of her faith. Paige must come to face the truth that she is living for her own purpose instead of trusting it to God. Her work intertwines her path with several others in dire situations enduring spiritual trials.
